Russian President notes prospects of SCO overall transport system

Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that formation of the SCO overall transport system with the use of Transsib and BAM has great prospects, RIA Novosti said Sept.12.

"The idea of the formation of the SCO overall transport system with the use of transit potential of Russia's Trans-Siberian Railway, Baikal-Amur Mainline, coupled with the plans on the development of the Silk Road of the People's Republic of China has great prospects, in our view. I'm sure that such large-scale projects will serve both the interests of members of our organization and other states of Eurasia," Putin said at the SCO summit.

He added that the agreement on creation of favorable conditions for international road transport, which is being signed Sept.12, will give a good momentum to the practical work in this direction. Putin noted that the implementation of this agreement will make it possible to create a network of road routes, including the Europe-Western China Transport Corridor, which connects ports of the Yellow Sea to the ports of the Leningrad region.

The next step should involve the approval of the program of the coordinated development of motorways of the SCO member states, the draft of which Russia presented to partners in April this year, the president concluded.
