The leadership of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic has expressed a wish to cancel the existing visa regime between the Azerbaijani region and Turkey. The above-mentioned wish was sounded by Vasif Talibov, Chairman of the Superior Council of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic during the meeting with a Turkish delegation represented by the Turkish Province of Igdir, headed by its Governor Saffet KarahisarlД±. Mr. Talibov said that Iran had introduced a special regime on crossing the state boundary, Trend reports.
In 1992, Ex-President His Excellency Heydar Aliyev, and Suleyman Demirel, who was the Turkish Prime-Minister opened the road of Hope that united the two countries. The commercial relations between the Autonomous Republic and Turkey exceed $40 mln. It makes 40% of the total volume of the foreign trade of Nakhchivan. We are receiving electric power from Turkey, said Mr. Talibov. He also said that according to the decision of the Supreme Council of Nakhchivan, the visa regime between the Azerbaijani region and Iran would be fully canceled. We would like to pay mutual visits without getting visas. It will promote closer approach between the two nations, he said.
Mr. Karahisarli said that he had taken his office of Governor just a year and a half ago, but he was well aware about difficulties the sister nation faced in Nakhchivan. We are about to visit Shamakhy and to hold a meeting with the leadership of Azerbaijan. I shall personally send a corresponding appeal to the leadership of Turkey concerning the cancellation of the existing visa regime for Nakhchivan. I hope that the issue will be solved positively, said the Turkish Governor.
The Turkish delegation includes Saim Saffet Karahisarli, Head of the Igdir Executive Power and Nuraddin Aras, Chairman of the Idir Municipality. They came to Azerbaijan to sign an agreement on announcing Igdir and Shamakhy as brother-towns.
