Azerbaijan Passes OIC’s Chairmanship to   Pakistan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr A. Ismaylova / Azerbaijan has passed the chairmanship of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to Pakistan, the Third Secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy to Pakistan, Sabir Rzayev, said on May 15.

The ceremony was held in Islamabad (the capital of Pakistan) during the 34th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC. The Pakistani President Parviz Musharraf was also in attendance.

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Emar Mammadyarov delivered a speech at the meeting where he summed up the activities carried out by Azerbaijan as the chairman of the OIC.

Three resolutions on Azerbaijan are expected to be adopted today. The foreign ministers of the OIC countries will adopt two resolutions condemning the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and the destruction of cultural and historical monuments in the Azerbaijani territories occupied by the Armenian armed forces. The third resolution is of an economic nature.

Besides the event, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister has intentions to hold a number of meetings including the meetings with the Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmoud Kasuri and the Foreign Minister of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
