The Media Control Group of the Iranian Culture Ministry closed the well-known Hamshahri newspaper today, the Ilna news agency reported.

Hamshahri was closed after publishing an advertisement of a tourism photography center, which made reference to the Baha'i religious minority, the report said.

According to a report by Amnesty International, although about 300,000 Baha'is live in Iran, the Iranian Constitution has not recognized the Baha'i religion as official. Since the founding of the Islamic Republic of Iran, more than 200 Baha'is have been executed.
