Azerbaijani courts have reviewed over 96,000 cases in 2009, Supreme Court Chairman Ramiz Rzayev said at a meeting reviewing the 2009 results.
"During this period, 14,000 criminal and military cases were reviewed, 4 862 of which were considered by appeal courts, which are five percent of the total number of cases," Rzayev said.
He said the judges should show no bias and make independent decisions.
"A judge must convince the opposite side that his decision was just. The independence of judges depends on themselves," Rzayev said.
