Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 1

By Elmir Murad - Trend:

The Nardaran incident has shown that the individuals, not living in this settlement, in particular, Taleh Baghirov and his friends, have become a mafia, Azerbaijani MP Azay Guliyev told Trend Dec. 1.

He stressed that these people thought that Nardaran people's commitment to the religion is the basis for abuse.

"But everyone has been convinced once again that one can not take actions against Azerbaijan and break the law," he said. "They will be prosecuted. Unfortunately, the police officers were killed. Such incidents repeatedly occur in Nardaran. This issue must be solved once and for all."

The MP stressed that it is necessary to prevent turning Nardaran into a center of extremist forces and radical groups.

Guliyev said that the issue must be controlled by the law enforcement bodies.

"The residents of this settlement must carry out the targeted work," he said. "The children appear on the street under the religious pressure and religious slogans. I think this is a very big threat for Azerbaijan's statehood. It is necessary to pay more attention to the education in Nardaran, in particular, to attract children to school. There must be a certain approach to the management in the settlement. I am sure that there are many smart, wise people in Nardaran who respect the laws of Azerbaijan and who will not commit actions against it. It is necessary to increase the role and responsibility of sensible forces in the settlement."

The Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies started a special operation in Baku's Nardaran settlement from 08:00 (UTC/GMT +4 hours) December 1 to ensure the citizens' rights, freedom, protect their legitimate interests, seize firearms, explosives and devices, a joint statement of the Interior Ministry, the General Prosecutor's Office and the National Security Ministry said.
