Azerbaijani Health Ministry Strengthens Control Over Advertisement of Medicine

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Since 1 April, the Azerbaijani Health Ministry has strengthened its control over the advertisement of medicines in the local television channels.

"The Law on pharmaceutical activities bans the advertisement of medicine and some television channels are violating this legislation," Oktay Shiraliyev, the Azerbaijani Health Minister, stated. The Minister said that control over fake medicine should be strengthened.

Elsever Agayev, the Deputy Health Minister, touched upon the detection of fake medicine and noted that 88 types of fake medicine had been withdrawn from circulation since the beginning of the year.

The licensed drug stores number 868 in the regions, 589 in Baku, 56 in Ganja, 25 in Sumgayit. The state-run drug stores comprise 197 in Baku and over 400 in the regions.

Agayev announced that the Center for Innovations and Supplies of the Health Ministry will establish inspection branches in the region to trace poor quality and fake medicines. A hotline will be set up to receive complaints and appeals from customers.
