ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 18. The flood forecasting and modeling system, Tasqyn, has been put into industrial operation in Kazakhstan,Trend reports via the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This was announced during a meeting led by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, regarding preparations for the upcoming flood season in the country.

During the meeting, it was noted that flood modeling is currently being conducted for 142 hydrological posts on 128 sections of rivers in the country. 114 specialists from basin inspections and branches of "Kazvodkhoz" are conducting daily monitoring of data from these hydrological posts and inputting it into the system.

"In addition to flood preparations within the country, we also maintain constant communication with colleagues from neighboring states. The exchange of information is carried out promptly. We are also continuing to release water from reservoirs to ensure there is available capacity to accommodate the spring flood. Currently, reservoirs can take in 13 billion cubic meters of water," said Nurzhigitov.

To note, the Tasqyn system is integrated into the global flood alert system, GloFAS. The final forecast for the 2025 flood season will be provided by Tasqyn at the beginning of March.
