By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgian AgroLine company plans to build a nuts processing enterprise in the village of Chumlaki, Gurjaani Municipality in late September or early October, Trend reports via Georgian media.

The project’s investment value is 5.4 million lari ($1.7 million).

According to AgroLine founder Giorgi Meskhidze, the company has been producing nuts since 2014. The company picked the first small harvest in 2019. In this way, the company decided to build a nuts processing plant.

As reported, the plant’s output in 2021 will be 500 tons and in 2023 it will reach 1,500 tons.

“The nuts gardens planted in 2019 started giving harvest in 2020 and it became necessary to build a processing plant. We have designed the project together with Spanish specialists. The plant will be equipped with Spanish technologies by investing 1.9 million lari ($613,893) , while 3.5 million lari ($1.1 million) will be invested in building infrastructure and high-standard sections," Meskhidze said.

As he noted, construction works will be performed by Element Construction Company of Georgia.

"The plant will be commisioned this year, in late September or early October. The plant will employ about 25 citizens for processing dried nuts,” Meskhidze said, adding that the greater part of the products will be exported to the EU market.

“EU will be the target market with more stable prices. We have launched negotiations with Spain and Italy, however, final decisions will be taken in the sales process. In the mentioned markets, the demand exceeds the supply. Therefore, we will be competitive in the market. We plan to export the product, however, amid the pandemic the export procedures may face some problems and we will have to sell part of the products on the Georgian market”, Meskhidze noted.
