As a result of foreign trade transactions in 2008, Azerbaijan imported 232 types of Belarusian goods, with 70 of them new, Belarusian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nikolai Patskevich said on Feb. 3.
"Two and a half years ago Azerbaijan was importing 150 types of goods from Belarus and we saw a need to increase the number," he said.
According to Patskevich, Presidents of Belarus and Azerbaijan have set a task to reach the sales volume of $500 million. This is possible with 400 types of goods.
"We are halfway to the task. At least another 100 types are required," he said.
Diplomat found it difficult to give an accurate forecast of growth in turnover for this year. The figure will rise by about 30-50 types. There are all prerequisites for such growth, he said.
"These will be a variety of goods from all economic sectors. We have not yet exhausted all reserves of food and light industries and industrial consumption products," said Patskevich.
Export-import operations between Azerbaijan and Belarus hit $110 million over 2008, or a 200-percent rise from 2007.
