Azerbaijani Finance Ministry discusses prospects of further cooperation with ADB, WB

Azerbaijani delegation headed by Finance Minister Samir Sharifov is attending the 42nd meeting of managers of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Denpasar, Indonesia. Sharifov is Azerbaijan alternative manager of the bank in Azerbaijan and Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev is the manager.

The meeting is attended by representatives from 67 Asian countries and other regions. Participants of the meeting will share of policy to remove the influence of global financial crisis.

Finance Minister spoke about the economic development of Azerbaijan in the global economic crisis and economic policies pursued in the country to protect it from negative effects of the crisis.

During the meeting, Sharifov met with ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda and Director of the Bank in the Central and West Asia Juan Miranda. The meeting discussed the current state of the financial support of ADB's projects in Azerbaijan in various fields of infrastructure, as well as planned in the framework of new projects.

The Minister also met with Vice President of the World Bank Shigeo Katsu.

The ADB was established in 1966 and has 67 members. The headquarters of the bank is located in Manila. Azerbaijan has been a member of the Asian Bank of Dec. 22, 1999 and the percentage of participation in the capital of the bank is 0.5 percent.

Leading shareholders of the ADB are Japan and the United States (31.2 per cent of the total share capital), India and China (12.8 percent), Australia, South Korea and Canada (16 percent), etc.
