Surplus of Azerbaijani public budget hits 4.4 percent of GDP

In January-October 2009, the Public budget income comprised 8342.2 million manat, or 31.3 percent of GDP. It decreased 4.5 percent from the last year, a government source said today.

Public budget expenses increased 0.6 percent and made up 7178.9 million manat (26.9 percent of the GDP). The surpluses of the budget totaled 1163.3 million (4.4 percent of GDP).

Some 37.8 percent (3.157 billion manat) of revenues falls to the Taxes Ministry's, with fulfillment of the forecast at 58.6 percent. Revenues on the customs duties and taxes totaled 959.3 million manat (11.5 percent).

In this period a total of 1621.9 million manat was obtained from VAT, or 19.4 percent of all income, 1247.4 million manat (14.9 percent) - profit taxes, 477.4 million manats (5.7 percent) - income taxes, 233.4 million manats (2.8 percent) - excise taxes, 57.8 million manats (0.7 percent)-property taxes, 91.8 million manats (1.1 percent) - land taxes and 206.2 million manats (2.5 percent) -taxes from foreign economic activities.

The public budget expense for social security and provision of people comprised 907.7 million manats (12.6 percent). 854.3 million manat (11.9 percent) was spent on education, 292 million (4.1 percent) - health, 473.3 million (6.5 percent) - maintenance of prosecutor bodies, security and law-enforcement and court bodies, 3002 million (41.8 percent)- investment allocations, 140 million (2 percent) - housing and communal services, 266.2 million (3.7 percent) - agriculture, fishing, 59.3 million (0.8 percent) - transport and communications, and 2275. 7 million (31.6 percent) of Public expenses were spent on the payment of salaries, pension and allowances.

On Dec. 3, the official exchange rate is 0.8025 manat to $3.
