Exporting 2.2 million tons in 2009, Kazakhstan will soon be an top international flour exporter, the Kazakh Agriculture ministry reported.

In 2005, Kazakhstan exported 931,900 tons of flour and ranked first in the world in terms of flour exports per capita. The country has been first in the world since 2007.

In 2009, Kazakhstan exported over 2 million tons of flour - a record in the country's history.

According to the ministry, Kazakhstan exports flour to foreign markets six times more than Russia. In November alone, Kazakhstan will export 294,000 tons of flour. Russia exported about 350,000 tons during all of 2008.

Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan are the main consumers of Kazakh flour.

The country seeks to bring export volumes to 2.5-3 million tons per year, and send flour exports to Iran, India and China.
