NMMC completes construction of gold mining plant on Zarmitan field

Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine (NGMK) has completed construction of a gold mining plant (GMZ-4, hydrometallurgy plant) worth $114.6 million on the Zarmitan field, the general director of the plant Kuvandik Sanakulov said.

The plant will be commissioned in the last days of August, on the eve of Independence Day of Uzbekistan.

NGMK has started to realize investment project on mastering Zarmitan gold-ore zone in 2007. The zone includes Zarmitan, Gujumsay and Promejutochnoye fields.

The project includes construction of mining complex on the basis of deposits Zarmitan gold zone, including the expansion of the mine on the Zarmitan field, construction of mines in the Gujumsay and Promejutochnoye fields, as well as expansion of capacity of gold mining plant.

In the second and third stages, it is planned to expand capacity of gold extraction facility up to 1.4 million and 1.8 million tonnes respectively.

Within the first phase the construction of the mine in Zarmitan is also underway.

It is planned to complete the project by 2012

Russia NPO RIVS supplied equipment to the plant ZUMK-Engineering (Russia) and Altynkazgan (Kazakhstan) are carrying out contractor's work.

The combine finances the object due to own resources.

The gold output will make up 10 tonnes.

Navoi Mining is one of the major gold producers in Central Asia. The plant is fully owned by the state. The main gold-ore base of the enterprise is the Muruntau field (Central Kyzyl Kum). The plant includes two gold extracting plants - GMZ-2 in Zeravshan and GMZ-3 in Uchkuduk. NMMC is exclusive operator for the extraction, enrichment and export of uranium in Uzbekistan.

Processing of uranium is carried out on the hydrometallurgical plant GMZ-1 in Navoi.
