Poverty level decreases in Azerbaijan

Compared with 2009, the poverty level in Azerbaijan declined by 1.8 percent in 2010, amounting to 9.1 percent, the head of the State Statistics Committee Arif Veliyev said at a press conference.

Compared with 2009, the poverty level in Azerbaijan declined by 1.8 percent in 2010, amounting to 9.1 percent, the head of the State Statistics Committee Arif Veliyev said at a press conference.

"In 2009, the poverty rate was 10.9 percent, while in 2008 the poverty line was 13.2 percent in the country," said Veliyev.
Veliyev said, in 2010 for the level of human development, Azerbaijan ranked 67th compared with 101st in 2005 among 169 countries worldwide.  

According to him, last year the incomes of the Azerbaijani population increased by 13.3 percent to 25.6 billion manat compared with 2009. Per capita income grew by 11.9 percent to 2,866 manat. Of the total income 70 percent was spent on consumption, 8.6 percent - payment of taxes on state social insurance and payment of membership fees, 19.8 percent - increase of savings and capital.

Official rate on Jan. 25 is 0.7974 AZN/USD.
