The number of stations of Baku Metro will reach 73 by 2030, head of Baku Metro Tagi Ahmadov said in an interview published on Wednesday on the official website of the ruling party Yeni Azerbaijan.
He noted that the work on the development of metro lines was carried out in the past few years, Nasimi, Azadlig Avenue, Darnagyul and second exit of 28 May station were commissioned through the funds in the amount of about 600 million manat allocated for the development of the underground. The reconstruction of Icherisheher and Koroglu stations was also carried out. The work at Avtovokzal, Memar Ajami-2, Hazi Aslanov-2, Kohna Guneshli, Yeni Guneshli is being continuing.
Ahmadov noted it is planned to commission two new metro stations in 2013.
"After that, we will build the stations annually. The state budget provides enough money to do this," Ahmadov said.
Baku Metro has been operating since since 1967 and has 23 stations. Earlier a 20-year program of Baku Metro development has been adopted. In accordance with long-term development scheme, in the future its overall network will consist of five lines compared to the current two.
