Latvia, Azerbaijan to discuss attracting new investments in state projects

Azerbaijan and Latvia will discuss the issues of expanding bilateral cooperation and attracting new investments, the Latvian Embassy in Azerbaijan said on Monday.

According to the report, the sides will discuss the issues of strengthening cooperation in such areas as transport, transit, logistics, information technologies, social welfare, education, industry, tourism, energy, foreign trade and banking during Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis's visit to Azerbaijan, to be held on November 27-30.

Dombrovskis will meet with senior officials and discuss the possibility of establishing a closer partnership in the field of entrepreneurship, as well as bilateral political relations.

During the visit, the Azerbaijani side will be briefed on the investment opportunities in Latvia's projects of national importance.

Prime Minister will be accompanied by more than 80 Latvian businessmen.
"This will be one of the largest delegations of entrepreneurs for recent years," the message said. "This points to the increased interest of the Latvian business circles to business opportunities in Azerbaijan."

According to Latvia's statistics, Latvia's foreign trade turnover with Azerbaijan reached 27 million euro in 2011, or 45 percent more compared to 2010. The exports of goods and services hit 23 million euro (increased by 45 percent), imports of goods and services - 4 million euro (increased by 50 percent).

Latvia exported goods worth 18.1 million euro to Azerbaijan in 2011 and imported goods worth 3.3 million euro from Azerbaijan.

Latvia exported goods worth 12.1 million euro to Azerbaijan and imported goods worth 1.3 million euro from Azerbaijan during the first three quarters of 2012.

Latvia exports animal products, metal products, food and chemical products to Azerbaijan. Mineral and food products are mainly imported from Azerbaijan.
