Iran, Iraq to discuss free economic zone creation

A delegation from the Iraqi Finance Ministry will visit Iran at the end of January to discuss details of creating a free economic zone between the two countries, Iraqi newspaper Aswat al-Iraq reported today.

The head of department on Iraq's free economic zone regulation under the Finance Ministry Sabah Saleh al-Qaisi said that the goal of creating a free economic zone is to increase trade turnover between the two countries and strengthen cooperation in the field of industrial production.

The exact terms of implementing the free trade zone creation project between the two countries has not yet been specified. Al-Qaisi said the two countries intend to make every effort to implement the project which will serve not only the interests of Iraq and Iran, but also other countries in the region.

Iraq has three free economic zones in the province of Basra - Khor Al-Zubair, Ninevia - Fleyfel and Anbar - Kayem.
