Iran is ready to cooperate with Comoros in the field of energy, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Tuesday.

Considering the valuable experiences of Iranian experts in the field of energy and especially renewable energy, Tehran could help Moroni to solve its electricity shortage problem, the IRNA News Agency reported.

Salehi made the remarks during his meeting with the Comorian Vice-President Nuroddin Borhan. Salehi has previously visited Comoros in July.

Comoros, a sovereign archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean, is currently struggling with severe electricity shortage.

Salehi had previously said that Iran will help Comoros to construct solar panels and wind turbines to produce electricity.

The power generation capacity in Iran has grown by 7 percent annually during the past 10 years, he said, adding that the figure has averaged 3.5 percent in the world.

Iran currently trades power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.

Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
