Cargo transport at Baku port increases eight percent

The Baku International Sea Trade Port handled 540,000 tons of cargo in January which is eight percent more than the same period of 2013.

The Baku International Sea Trade Port handled 540,000 tons of cargo in January which is eight percent more than the same period of 2013, a source at the port told Trend on Feb.27.

In total the port handled 6.55 million tons of cargo in 2013, compared to 6.7 million tons which is eight percent more than in 2012.

Around 320,000 tons of the total volume of cargo handled by the port in 2013 fell to ferry cargo which is nine percent less compared to the same period of 2013, the source said.

Some 119,000 tons of cargo was handled by the port's dry cargo terminal in January 2014 compared to 90,000 tons in January 2013.

About 610 containers were handled by the port in January which is 35 percent more than in the same period of 2013, according to the source.
