Azerbaijan increases passenger transportation since early 2016

Around 595.6 million passengers were transported by Azerbaijan's transport sector in January-April 2016 or 1.8 percent more than in the same period of 2015, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report said.

Some 66 million tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan's transport sector or 3.8 percent less than in January-April 2015.

The volume of non-oil cargo transportation decreased by 0.3 percent in January-April and hit 47.2 million tons.

Around 82.1 percent of the total volume of cargo transported during this period accounted for the private sector.

Some 59.9 percent of the total volume of cargo was transported by vehicles, 30.6 percent by pipelines, 7 percent by trains and 2.5 percent by ships.

Passenger vehicles transported 595.6 million people in January-April which is 1.8 percent more than in the same period of 2015. Most passengers were transported by vehicles (87.8 percent) and metro (12.1 percent).

Some 4.6 million tons of cargo were transported by railway in January-April compared to 25.5 million tons in January-April 2015.

On average, the number of loaded carriages made up 414 and unloaded - 389. Average daily load of carriages in the northern direction is 17,300 tons and in western direction 4,400 tons and southern direction - 1,500 tons.

Ships transported 1.66 million tons of cargo during this period or by 36.1 percent less than in January-April 2015. Some 41.2 percent of transported cargo accounted for oil cargo. The volume of cargo handled at Azerbaijani ports during this period amounted to 2.83 million tons.
Vehicles transported 39.6 million tons of cargo, which is 2.8 percent more than in the same period of 2015.

The volume of passenger transportation hit 522.7 million people (2.5 percent growth compared to January-April 2015). Some 96.2 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.8 percent - by cars.

Some 71.8 million people were transported by the subway, which is 2.8 percent less compared to the same period of 2015.

Some 474,800 passengers were transported by planes, which is 4.3 percent less than in January-April 2015. Around 0.1 percent of transportation by this type of transport accounted for the private sector.
