Kazakhstan plans IPO of largest state companies

Kazakhstan plans to hold IPO (initial public offering) of the largest state companies such as oil and gas company KazMunaiGas, railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, air carrier Air Astana, mining company Tau-Ken Samruk, electricity holding Samruk-Energy as well as Kazakhtelecom and Kazpost.

Kazakhstan plans to hold IPO (initial public offering) of the largest state companies such as oil and gas company KazMunaiGas, railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, air carrier Air Astana, mining company Tau-Ken Samruk, electricity holding Samruk-Energy as well as Kazakhtelecom and Kazpost.

The road map of the IPO of these companies will be submitted for consideration of the state commission until the yearend, National Economy Minister Kuandik Bishimbayev said at the government meeting, the ministry reported. Moreover it is planned to submit to the state commission a proposal on the sale of subsidiaries of the National Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna until the end of 2016 as well.

Bishimbaev noted that the state commission has already decided to liquidate 59 subsidiaries of Samruk-Kazyna, reorganize 12 subsidiaries and sell 55 subsidiaries, 32 of which have been already sold.

"We expect the transfer of the state assets to the private sector will give impetus to further development of the business and provide new opportunities for the private sector, revitalize the competitive environment, will help to attract investment in the economy and have a positive impact on the improvement of the quasi-public sector,” the minister said.
