Azerbaijan’s state debt to decrease after 2018: Fitch

Azerbaijan’s state debt in 2017 will account for 24 percent of the country’s GDP, reads a Fitch report on Azerbaijan presented at the sixth Fitch annual meeting in Baku.

Azerbaijan’s state debt will reach a peak in 2018 and gradually decrease afterwards, according to the forecast.

Fitch forecasts the state debt to be 25.1 percent of Azerbaijan’s GDP in 2018, 22.6 percent of GDP in 2019 and 14.5 percent of GDP by 2026.

As of Jan. 1, 2017, Azerbaijan’s foreign debt amounted to $6.913 billion (12.241 billion manats), which is 20.4 percent of the GDP, according to the Azerbaijani Finance Ministry.
