Cargo traffic increases in Azerbaijan

Some 32.6 million tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan’s modes of transport in January-February 2017, that is, by 4.4 percent more than in January-February 2016, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

Non-oil cargo traffic increased by 6.6 percent and amounted to 23.5 million tons for the year.

According to the report, some 76.3 percent of the total cargo transported in January-February 2017 accounted for private sector.

Some 56.5 percent of the total cargo was transported by vehicles, 30.6 percent – by pipelines, 8.9 percent – by trains, 3.9 percent – by ships, and 0.1 percent – by planes.

Some 294.6 million passengers were transported in January-February 2017, that is, by 2.3 percent more than in January-February 2016. Some 87.7 percent of passengers were transported by vehicles, 12.1 percent by subway, the rest part – by other types of transport.

Some 2.9 million tons of cargo were transported by trains in January-February 2017, which is by 29.2 percent more than in January-February 2016, the report said.

On average, the daily number of loaded railcars was 369, while the number of unloaded railcars was 449.

Average daily load of carriages in the northern direction of the railway amounted to 14,400 tons, western – 4,900 tons, southern – 1,200 tons.

Some 1.26 million tons of cargo were transported by ships in January-February 2017, or by 50.5 percent more than in January-February 2016. Some 43.4 percent of the transported cargo accounted for oil cargo.

Some 1.81 million tons of cargo were handled at the Azerbaijani ports in January-February 2017.

According to the report, some 18.4 million tons of cargo were transported by vehicles in January-February 2017, which is by 2.3 percent more than in January-February 2016.

Some 258.3 million people were transported by vehicles in January-February 2017 (an increase by 1.9 percent as compared to January-February 2016), 96.4 percent of these passengers were transported by buses and 3.6 percent by vehicles.

Some 35.6 million people were transported by subway in January-February 2017, that is, by 4.9 percent more than in January-February 2016.

Moreover, some 266,500 passengers were transported by planes in January-February 2017, or by 29.1 percent more than in January-February 2016. Some 0.1 percent of air traffic accounted for private sector during the reporting period, the report said.
