President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals for improving the efficiency of the state commodity exchange’s activity, the Watan newspaper reported.

During the recent government meeting, the president noted the importance of updating and adjusting organizational approaches in the work of the commodity exchange – the main body regulating export and import operations.

In April, Berdimuhamedov criticized the activities of the commodity exchange, pointing to low effectiveness, poor export sales and the decline in currency earnings.

Companies and organizations, citizens of Turkmenistan and other states can participate in exchange trading, through the purchase of a seat or conclusion of a service contract with brokers of the exchange.

Currently, domestically manufactured products which are exported to more than 40 countries, including Turkey, China, Russia, the UAE, Iran, Germany, the US, the UK, Ukraine and Switzerland, are sold on the stock exchange. The main export items are oil products, lint cotton, as well as products of the domestic textile and chemical industries.
