Tajikistan plans to increase electric power export with beginning of supply to Uzbekistan from April, Tajik media reported on March 14.
According to the information, growth of the water flow in Vakhsh River and increase of the water level in Nurek Dam’s reservoir will allow to increase power production, thus fully satisfying the internal demand, and to export the surplus to neighboring countries such as Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
Tajikistan also plans to increase power export to Afghanistan by 200 million kilowatt/hours.
The country exported 1.3 billion kilowatt/hours of electric power in 2017. In line with the achieved agreements, the figure will be increased to 1.5 billion kilowatt/hours.
“Tajik electric power is mainly used by Afghan Pul-e Khomri province and Kabul. Winters, with approval of the state government, 50 megawatt/hours of power is exported to Afghan Kunduz province. However, the Afghan side asks us to increase the export,” Tajik energy minister said earlier.
Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have achieved agreement on electric power export from Tajikistan. The export amount is expected to reach 1.5 billion kilowatt/hours. However, the sides didn’t reveal additional details of the deal back then.
