State Committee on Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of Kyrgyzstan (SCIESU) will begin to look for an investor for the Upper Naryn cascade of hydro power plants (HHPs) as soon as Russia will withdraw its lawsuit, Deputy Chairman of SCIESU Alymbek Orozbekov said addressing the meeting of the Kyrgyz parliamentary committee on economic and financial policy.

According to him, currently there are two ways to solve the issue of Upper Naryn cascade of HPPs: to withdraw the lawsuit by looking for a new investor jointly with the Russian side, or to look for an investor after the withdrawal of the lawsuit.

“We will negotiate, so the Russian side would withdraw the suit. Then we will begin to work on attracting investors, but before that we have to deal with the lawsuit. There are currently a number of interested companies, but an official search will be commenced only after solution of the issue with the Russian side,” Orozbekov said.

He added that a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Uzbekhydroenergo on Kambar-Ata HPP-1.

“Uzbekistan expressed interest in construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1,” he said.
