Turkey increases fiber-optic network length

Over the last three years (2015-2017), Turkey has increased the length of the fiber optic network by 55,000 kilometers, the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend March 28.

Presently, the total length of the fiber optic network in Turkey is 325,000 kilometers, while in 2015 it was 270,000 kilometers.

Over 76.616 million subscribers of mobile communication operators were registered in Turkey in 2017, the ministry said.

At the same time, more than 66.436 million people accounted for mobile internet users.

The mobile communication penetration rate is 99 percent in Turkey. To date, only 1,800 settlements in the country have not been provided with mobile and fiber-optic communication, which is stipulated by their location in remote areas.

In Turkey, 47 mobile operators have been registered, of which only three operate - Avea, Turkcell and Vodafone, operate.

At the end of 2017 Turkey’s population reached 80,810,525 people.
