As of late May 2018, the number of employees in the banking sector of Azerbaijan stood at 16,662, the country’s Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FIMSA) said July 3.
According to FIMSA, the number of employees in the banking sector rose by nearly 1 percent since early 2018. Since the beginning of the year, their number has increased by three percent, and compared to the same period last year - by 3.9 percent.
Thirty banks, including two state-owned ones, operate in the country. Fifteen Azerbaijani banks have foreign capital, and the share of foreign shareholders exceeds 50 percent of the authorized capital in eight of them.
Meanwhile, two branches of foreign banks (Bank Melli Iran and National Bank of Pakistan) operate in Azerbaijan.
In late May 2018, 511 branches and 143 departments of banks operated in the country.
