The seaport of Aktau in Kazakhstan expanded the range of goods accepted from the Baku International Sea Trade Port and began processing a new type of cargo, potash fertilizers, a representative of the Kazakh port told Trend.

According to the representative of the port of Aktau, in January-September 2018, the cargo turnover between the Baku International Sea Trade Port and the seaport of Aktau amounted to 207,000 tons of cargo.

The Kazakh port also reported that in the framework of further cooperation with the Baku port, it is planned to develop container shipments on feeder ships on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

On April 5, 2018 the Mahmud Ragimov feeder vessel, owned by Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company, moored in the seaport of Aktau in order to serve the regular feeder container traffic over the TITR.

After loading 70 twenty-foot containers by wheat and lentils of Kazakhstani production, the vessel was sent back to the Baku port. Having reached the seaport of Baku, the containers were sent to the Turkish port of Mersin via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway link opened in 2017.

It was the first ever export of containers from Kazakhstan by a feeder vessel from the port of Aktau.

According to the plans for the development of the sea communication, the processing time of the vessel in the ports of Aktau and Baku will be no more than 24 hours in each of them, and the container delivery directly from the seaport of Aktau to the port of Baku will not exceed 36 hours.

In the future, the schedule provides for running of the feeder vessels on the Baku-Aktau-Baku route on a weekly basis.

The cargo turnover at the port of Aktau in 2018 is expected to reach 3.3 million tons.
