In the current Iranian year (started March 2, 2018), so far, Iran's Golestan province has exported 2,550 tons of citruses and kiwi to Turkmenistan, Russia and Azerbaijan, an official with Golestan Agricultural Jihad Organization Eidmohammad Faruqi said, Trend reports via IRNA.

He noted that 2,300 tons of the exports accounted to citruses, the rest to kiwifruit.

The province has exported citruses for over $1 million, and it leads to balance in the fruit market and decrease in prices, Faruqi said.

Presently, besides the factories having licenses of Golestan Industry, Mine and Trade Organization, there are 19 factories of Golestan Agricultural Jihad Organization that are involved in fruit packaging and storage.

Citruses are harvested in mid-autumn in Golestan.

This year, due to cold weather, this year's harvest is estimated around 80,000 tons. Roughly 60 percent of the harvest is consumed within the province.

Most of Golestan's citrus orchards are in the west of the province.
