Agricultural output in Kazakhstan's Maktaaral hits $110M

Last year, the gross agricultural output of the Maktaaral district of Kazakhstan’s Turkistan region reached 42 billion tenge, Trend reports referring to the Kazakh media.

According to the press service of the region’s administration, crop production amounted to 32.2 billion tenge, animal husbandry to 9.6 billion tenge and agricultural activity totaled 278 million tenge.

It should be noted that the total area of agricultural lands in the Maktaaral district is 60,926 hectares, of which 38,593 hectares are cotton sown areas. Some 96,512 tons of cotton were harvested in the district last year.

Also in 2018, more than 316,366 tons of melons and gourds were produced in the district. Local residents are also engaged in rice cultivation: last year, more than 9,104 tons were harvested.

There are 532 canals with a length of more than 1,140 kilometers, 288 irrigation canals with a length of 840.7 kilometers and 339 vertical drainage wells in the Maktaaral district.
