Turkmenistan cooperating with Austria in livestock breeding

The Turkmen company “Sahabatly” has signed a contract with Austrian farmers for the purchase of 400 heads of Holstein cattle, Trend reports with reference to the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

The company has a livestock complex in the Gokdepe district of the Ahal region of Turkmenistan and is a major producer of dairy products.

The number of dairy cows is planned to be doubled. The complex has conditions for the maintenance of 1,000 heads of small ruminants, including 350 goats of the Saanen breed. The farm is on the territory of 9 hectares, 600 hectares are allocated for forage crops, including clover, maize, barley and soybeans.

A unit, the design capacity of which is 25-30 tons of milk per day, operates in the territory of the complex. About 9 tons of milk are processed there daily and more than 10 kinds of products are manufactured.

Earlier, Ashgabat hosted the Turkmen-Austrian business forum. The delegation of the European country included representatives of a number of state institutions and more than 20 companies specializing in trade, health, agriculture, transport and logistics, energy, machinery manufacturing, engineering technology, construction, tourism and other spheres.

Austria was studying projects in the field of processing of agricultural products and production of food. The possibility of participation in projects on construction of livestock complexes in Turkmenistan, and supply of equipment for the production of meat and dairy products was being considered.

Such companies as WOMA GmbH, Schoeller-Bleckmann Oilfield Equipment AG, Unger Stahlbau GmbH, Schrack Seconet AG, Oswelt GmbH, AME International, Landhof, Schlafhorst, Trutzschler, Uster and Strabag SE show interest in the Turkmen market.
