WB allocates Uzbekistan loan of $ 500 M

The World Bank (WB) approved a loan of $500 million to support economic reforms in Uzbekistan in the framework of the Development Policy Operations (DPO), Trend reports referring to Uzbek media.

DPO will assist the government in developing market economy and the private sector and the social integration of the population into a rapidly transforming economy of the country.

Hideki Mori, Head of the WB office in Uzbekistan, noted that this is additional support “at a critical moment when the direction of reforms shifts from regulatory changes to more complex institutional changes in the country's economic system.”

The World Bank supports Uzbekistan by implementing 22 projects totaling to more than $3.6 billion in the country, as well as providing analytical and advisory services to the government.

As reported, this activity contributes to the implementation of macroeconomic reforms, the improvement of the system of management of agriculture and water resources, the development of the sectors of energy, transport, health, education, urban economy, water supply and sanitation.
