Georgia publicizes statistics on its wholesale markets

The number of active economic agents engaged in working with wholesale markets of Georgia amounted to 206, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

About 32 percent of them are located in Tbilisi, 19.9 percent in Imereti region, 12.1 percent in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, 12.1 percent – Kakheti region, 7.3 percent - Kvemo Kartli region, 4.9 percent – Adjara region, 4.4 percent – Shida Kartli region, 2.9 percent – Samtskhe-Javakheti region, 1.5 percent – Guria region, 1.9 percent – Mtskheta-Mtianeti region and 1 percent – Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region.

All the markets have 1,322 unit of storage facilities with total area of 27,400 square meters and 447 units of cold storage facilities with 800 tons of total capacity, said the report.

The report also said that over 31 percent of markets trade only with non-food items.

Georgian markets trade differently: some 160 markets trade on a daily basis, while 19 markets are open Sundays as well.

On average, some 43,200 sellers work at the markets every day. Most of the sellers work in Tbilisi.
