Volume of cargo transportation up in Georgia

The total volume of goods transported to Georgia amounted to 18.2 million tons in January-June 2019, which is 1.1 percent more than for the same period in 2018 (18 million tons), Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

In the first half of 2019, the freight turnover of Georgia's railway transport increased from 5 to 5.1 million tons, which is two percent growth compared to the same period of 2018.

As reported, the volume of air traffic increased from 11,200 to 11,500 tons, or by 2.7 percent. The volume of freight transport by road increased from 13 to 13.1 tons, or by 0.8 percent.

In recent years, freight turnover via the Georgian transport corridor has been declining. According to the Ministry, in 2016, the volume of goods transported in the country amounted to 42.3 million tons, in 2017 - to 41.5 million tons, in 2018 - to 41.1 million tons.
