The total trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Estonia amounted to 6.5 million euro during 1Q2019, which was less than 60 percent compared to the first quarter of 2018, Trend reports with reference to the data of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.
In accordance to the data, the export from Estonia to Kazakhstan has decreased by 62 percent and amounted to 6 million euro, whereas the import grew by 25 percent and equaled 0.5 million euro.
Furthermore, the biggest decrease in export was that of machinery and mechanical appliances, which has decreased by nine million euro compared to 1Q2018.
“The main export articles during 1Q2019 were machinery and mechanical appliances (62 percent), animal-related products (eight percent), food and drinks (eight percent),” the report said.
“In turn, the main import articles during 1Q2019 were chemical products (74 percent),” the statement said.
The development of relations between Estonia and Kazakhstan has been significantly influenced by the Agreement on economic, research and technical co-operation that came into force in 2010. Based on the agreement, the Estonia and Kazakhstan Inter-Governmental Commission came together for the first time in 2010, and has now convened a total of six times.
The agenda of the Commission's plenary meeting included general economic relations between Estonia and Kazakshtan, including trade, transport, digitalization, agriculture, education and science, as well as cooperation in the fields of tourism, social sphere and between start-ups.
In addition to transport and transit, several other economy-related areas are of particular interest to Estonia, such as IT, agriculture, education and environment. Kazakhstan is interested in Estonia's experience in e-governance and the use of IT solutions in various fields.
