It is estimated that Iran produces about 10 tons of gold a year, Secretary of Iran Coal Association under Iran Economy House Saeed Samadi told the Young Journalists Club (YJC), Trend reports.
According to him, Iran tends to globally rank in the middle in terms of gold reserves, and cannot be considered a country with a massive potential in this area.
Samadi added that there are a number of problems in the area of gold mining, including problems linked to discovering new fields. As such, transparency should be created in this area.
"The private sector has a key role in gold mining in Iran and should use its own experience in gold mining and processing," he said.
Samadi added that the problems of mine owners should be addressed. He believes that one of the problems encountered in this area is sales, as the laws in force in the country stand in the way of sales.
At the same time, smuggling activities in this area have led to a reduction in demand for gold, he noted.
