Cargo transportation up in Azerbaijan in 9 months of 2019

Some 172.5 million tons of cargo were transported in Azerbaijan in the first nine months of 2019, which is 1.6 percent more than in the same period of 2018, Trend reports referring the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee.

A significant share of the total cargo transportation volume (65.7 percent) accounted for road transport - 113.3 million tons (an increase of 2.8 percent).

A quarter of the total cargo turnover (25.3 percent) accounted for pipelines. The volume of transported oil decreased by 5.1 percent and amounted to 29.381 million tons. In turn, the volume of transported gas increased by 18.5 percent and amounted to 19.382 million cubic meters.

The share of maritime transportation accounted for 2.6 percent of the specific weight, and its volume amounted to 4.478 million tons, having decreased by 27.5 percent. In the meantime, 34.4 percent of all maritime transportation accounted for the oil sector.

Rail transportation accounted for 6.3 percent of all freight traffic and amounted to 10.9 million tons. The growth compared to last year’s indicator for the first nine months reached 6.2 percent.

Air transportation accounted for only 0.1 percent of all freight traffic in Azerbaijan. Only 141,100 tons of cargo were transported by air, which is 5.9 percent less than in the same period last year.

The private transport sector accounted for 82.5 percent of all cargo traffic, which is 1.9 percent more than in the first nine months of last year.
