Iran discloses volume of goods to be transported via Mianeh-Bostanabad railway per year

Seven million tons of cargo and two million passengers will be transported by the Mianeh-Bostanabad railway situated in Iran’s western East Azerbaijan province a year, Head of Iran's Mianeh-Bostanabad railway project Hamid Ali Mohammadzadeh said.

“The travel time will be reduced by 114 kilometers and 5.5 hours, 200 people will be employed and 16 million liters of fuel will be saved per year,” Mohammadzadeh added, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

The head of the railway project noted that 14.1 trillion rials (about $336 million) were spent on the project.

Mohammadzadeh said that eight trillion rials (about $190 million) will be spent for the economic development of the province via using this railway.

The Mianeh-Bostanabad-Tabriz railway is approximately 203 kilometers long. About 132 kilometers are between Mianeh-Bostanabad and 70 kilometers - Bostanabad-Tabriz.

In Iran, this railway is considered to be the railway connecting Iran to Europe. At the same time, it will play a major role in the transportation and transit of goods to neighboring countries.

The Mianeh-Bostanabad railway was put into operation on Nov. 27.
