Trend:

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov entrusted to switch to a remote electronic communication system and services as soon as possible, Trend reports citing the "Zolotoy Vek" (Golden age) newspaper.

Berdimuhamedov held a working meeting with the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers.

He said that the transition to electronic system of communication and services will increase the level of awareness of the international community about the country’s life. The president noted that the main reason for switching to such a system is the risk of spreading coronovirus.

Since creation of this project is now a necessary management tool that helps to better organize and coordinate all processes, he instructed to prepare a draft concept for the development of the e-government system as soon as possible and submit relevant proposals.

It was also noted that there is a need to make appropriate changes to a number of legislative acts of the Government, Parliament and other state bodies, which should be ready for digital transformation of activities.

The outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan - which is an international transport hub - began at a fish market in late December 2019. The number of people killed by the disease has surpassed 9,000. Over 222,000 people have been confirmed as infected. Meanwhile, over 84,000 people have reportedly recovered.

Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019. Several countries are working on a vaccine against the new virus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11 declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
