Agricultural production increases in Azerbaijan

The actual value of gross agricultural output in Azerbaijan exceeded 7.8 billion manat ($4.5 billion) in 2019, 4.09 billion manat ($2.4 billion) accounted for livestock products, and 3.75 billion manat ($2.2 billion) - to the share of crop production, Trend reports citing the report on the activities of Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers for 2019.

In 2019, the country’s agricultural production increased by 7.2 percent, livestock production - by 3.5 percent, and crop production - by 11.7 percent compared to 2018.

These results also had a positive effect on export. So, in 2020, export of basic agricultural products (excluding cotton yarn) increased by 12.2 percent compared to 2019 and amounted to $760.3 million. Meanwhile, export of fruit and vegetables increased by 9.1 percent, cotton fiber - by 53.9 percent, cotton yarn - by 27.4 percent.

In 2019, stable growth also continued in animal husbandry. Meat production in live weight increased by three percent and amounted to 573,300 tons, milk - by 2.4 percent, exceeding 2.1 million tons, eggs - by 9 percent, amounting to 1.8 million tons. Wool production increased by 1.6 percent and amounted to 16,100 tons.

As a result of measures on strengthening the country's food supply in 2019, the level of self-sufficiency in basic foodstuffs amounted to 82.5 percent for meat and meat products, 101.8 percent - for eggs, 86.2 percent - for milk and dairy products, 82.2 percent - for fish and fish products, 87.8 percent - for potatoes, 112 percent - for vegetables, 100.8 percent - for gourds, 123.1 percent - for fruit and berries, 74.9 percent - for sugar. Also, a high level of self-sufficiency was recorded for flour - 95.6 percent, canned products - 90.3 percent, oil - 69.3 percent, salt - 111.4 percent.

Along with this, in order to formulate new mechanisms to support the measures applied in the agricultural sector, ensure accountability, transparency and more efficient use of budgetary funds, simplify and electronize appeals in connection with subsidies, the procedure for subsidizing agricultural production and the regulation on the electronic farming information system have been approved.
