Share of domestic exports decreases in Georgia

The exports of Georgia (excluding non-declared exports) equaled $778.2 million from January through March 2020, 5.9 percent lower year-on-year, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

In the reporting period, the share of the domestic exports in total export constituted 69.3 percent and amounted to $539.5 million, 1.7 percent lower compared to January-March 2019.

From January through March 2020, the share of the top ten trading partners by domestic exports in the total domestic exports of Georgia amounted to 79.6 percent. The top partners were China ($97.1 million), Bulgaria ($83.1 million) and Russia ($82.6 million).

In the reporting period, copper ores and concentrates reclaimed the first place in the list of top export items, equaling $159 million, or 29.5 percent of total exports. The exports of ferroalloys totaled $58 million and their share in the total exports amounted to 10.8 percent. The exports of the wine of fresh grapes occupied the third place standing at $44.1 million and constituting 8.2 percent of the total exports.

The external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $2.77 billion from January through March 2020, 2.7 percent lower to the same period of 2019. The exports equaled $778.2 million (5.9 percent lower), while the imports stood at $1.99 billion (1.4 percent lower). The negative trade balance was $1.21 billion from January through March, and its share in external trade turnover constituted 43.9 percent.
