By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

Revenues from Azerbaijan’s persimmon exports decreased by more than $4 million from January through April 2020 compared to the same period of 2019, Chairman of the Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan Gadir Yusifov told Trend.

The chairman noted that the income from the export of Azerbaijani persimmons has reached some $18 million since the beginning of 2020.

The introduction of a special quarantine regime in much of the world in order to strengthen measures to combat the spread of coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on persimmon sales in foreign markets, he said.

During the pandemic period persimmons from Azerbaijan were exported only to Russia and Ukraine, he emphasized.

Touching upon the issue of selling persimmons on the domestic market, Yusifov noted that the demand for local persimmons remained unchanged, adding that 20,367 tons of persimmons were sold domestically in 2019.

The Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan was created in August 2017 on the initiative of entrepreneurs and with the support of the Ministry of Economy.

The main objectives of the association are to increase the production of competitive and export-oriented products, as well as increase persimmon exports. Income from exports in 2019 significantly exceeded revenues for 2018, amounting to $114 million.
