As many as 1.41 million mobile phones have been imported to Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to date (June 9), Spokesman for Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing IRICA.
According to Latifi, mobile phone imports increased by 145 percent compared to the same period of the last Iranian year.
Latifi added that more than 574,000 mobile phones were imported in the same period last year.
The spokesman said that the value of imported mobile phones was about $230 million.
“The value of imported mobile phones increased by 487 percent,” he said.
Latifi noted that the value of imported mobile phones was about $39.1 million in the same period last Iranian year.
The price of mobile phones has been rising in Iran recently. In Iran, this is mostly attributed to the appreciation of foreign currency.
In total, about 6.5 million tons of goods worth $5.04 billion were imported to Iran in two months (March 20-May 20, 2020).
