Georgia sees decrease in wool production

The number of sheep and poultry increased, while the number of bovine animals, pigs and goats decreased in Georgia in 2019 year-on-year, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The production of meat declined by 4 percent, of wool - by 5 percent, while milk and egg production increased by 1 percent and 4 percent, respectively.

There was no change in honey production.

In terms of self-sufficiency ratios, there was no change for wheat (15 percent) or milk and milk products (81 percent).

However, self-sufficiency ratios decreased for most agricultural products in 2019 compared to 2018. The biggest reduction was observed for sheep and goat meat, where the self-sufficiency ratio declined from 294 percent to 158 percent.

The only products that experienced self-sufficiency ratio growth were vegetables, which increased from 59 percent in 2018 to 62 percent in 2019.
