Agriculture in Tehran Province is no longer traditional and most products are produced in lands that are equipped with new irrigation systems, said the head of Agriculture Organization in Tehran Province.
"About 66 percent of agricultural lands in Tehran Province are equipped with new irrigation systems and considering the increase of modern greenhouses it could be stated that traditional agriculture is not practiced in the province," said Karim Zolfaghari, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"The water and production management plan has been implemented in agricultural lands of Tehran Province and one cubic meter land produces 2.2 kilos of products while the country's average production is 1.4 kilo per cubic meter," he said.
"Construction of cottages is a threat to agricultural lands, the population growth in Tehran Province has caused agricultural lands to change their function and be used for construction," he said.
"Production of agricultural products in Tehran Province is currently in good condition and we are trying to prevent these lands being changed for housing construction or villas," he said.
Tehran Province owns 187,000-hectare agricultural lands that produce 6 million tons of agricultural products that share 6 percent of the country's production.
