Microgreens to appear on Georgian markets

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct.19

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Microgreens will appear on the Georgia markets in a month, Marita Genebashvili, co-founder of Georgia’s first vertical hothouse Microgreen said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

"So far, restaurants and hotels have primarily bought our products, but now, thanks to different concept, anybody is able to buy and consume our microgreens," she noted.

LLC Microgreen built a vertical hothouse (heated greenhouse) in Tbilisi in 2017. The hothouse covers 200 square meters and microgreens are grown in containers on special multi-level vertical shelves. The hothouse is equipped with special microclimate systems.

The company launched supply of microgreens to the domestic market in summer 2017.

At this stage, the company produces about 20 varieties of microgreen products, including: radish, garden cress, salad mix, broccoli, red cabbage, pea, sunflower, rucola and so on.

Unlike traditional greens, microgreens are richer with nutrients and antioxidants. For instance, red cabbage microgreens comprise 40 times more E vitamin and 6 times more C vitamin, compared to ordinary cabbage.

"Microgreens add new special tastes to dishes," said Marita Genebashvili.

“Now we are developing products adapted to family kitchen. Previously, restaurants and hotels used to buy our microgreens primarily. But we want families to broader use our products. This is a very interesting product that will appear in a month. This is an ordinary microgreens, but with a bit different concept and adapted to family needs,” Genebashvili noted.
