Azerbaijan almost doubles fish and seafood export

Azerbaijan increased the export of fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other seafood from January through September, Trend reports with reference to the statistical bulletin of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan.

According to the State Customs Committee, Azerbaijan exported fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other seafood to foreign markets for $696,000 in the first nine months of this year.

"Exports have increased 1.7 times compared to the same period last year," the report says.

Azerbaijan imported fish and other seafood worth $14.513 million during the reporting period, which is 4.2 percent or $588,000 more than the same period last year.

The annual consumption of seafood per capita in Azerbaijan is only 2.5 kilograms, while on average in the world this figure reaches 20.3 kilograms.

Currently, Azerbaijan Fish Farm is implementing several projects aimed at the development of aquaculture, including the fishery industry.

These projects cover various regions of Azerbaijan and provide for the cultivation of 1,000 tons (portioned and fillet) of rainbow trout, the production of 850 tons of sturgeon fish and 10 tons of black caviar by the end of 2020.
