USDA forecasts increase in Kazakhstan's wheat production volumes

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) estimates Kazakhstan wheat production for 2020/2021 at 14.3 million metric tons, up 14 percent from last month, and up 24 percent from last year, Trend reports citing the USDA.

Yield is estimated at 1.18 tons per hectare, up 11 percent from last month, and up 17 percent from last year. Harvested area is estimated at 12.1 million hectares, up 2 percent from last month, and up 7 percent from last year.

Total coarse grain production in Kazakhstan is expected to be 4.93 million metric tons with a decrease of 2.61 percent year-on-year, barley production is forecast to be 3.66 million metric tons, which is to be 4.46 percent less than during the same months of 2020.

Furthermore, oats production is projected to be 0.24 million metric tons, with an annual decrease of 10.11 percent, whereas rye production is expected to be 0.03 million metric tons (up by 30.43 percent year-on-year).

Cottonseed production is expected to be 0.11 million metric tons with an annual decrease of 25.53 percent, sunflower seed production is to be 0.84 million metric tons with an annual increase of 0.6 percent.

The report also noted that the rapeseed production in Kazakhstan is expected to be 0.15 million metric tons (drop by 36.51 percent annually).

Kazakhstan’s agriculture, forestry, and fishery gross output amounted to 6.27 trillion tenge ($14.9 billion) in 2020, which is 5.6 percent more compared to the same period of the last year.

Some 6.24 trillion tenge ($14.8 billion) accounted for agriculture alone including 3.6 trillion ($8.5 billion) accounting for plant growing, and 2.6 trillion tenge ($6.2 billion) - for animal husbandry.

The increase in the agriculture, forestry, and fishery gross output during the reporting period was due to the increase of plant growing volume by 7.8 percent, slaughter volumes of livestock and poultry in live weight by 4.1 percent, and yield of raw cow's milk by 3.2 percent.
